Conscious BDSM

Sunday June 19 2pm-5pm The Looking Glass Oakland

Location: The Looking Glass This event is for those who are interested in the awakening of consciousness through sexuality, and especially for healers and facilitators working with sexuality or in related fields. Using case studies from her practice and drawing on the experiences of participants, Shakti explains aspects of the body’s sexual bio-energetics.

Our existing ego structure - that which binds us to the perception of who we think we are - consists of polarities. Freedom comes through integrating these polarities. One extreme, but highly effective way of catalyzing this integration is through full immersion in one or the other side of a polarity.

Sky Dancing for Women

June 20 / 10am-6pm / Oakland (RSVP required) Cost $160

dance woman 2.jpg

Skydancing is what happens when a woman drops into the full bliss of her sexual womanhood. Women's sexuality is a powerful gateway to liberation, and yet on that is not much understood in our world. Our sexuality has been conditioned to be masculine rather than feminine. Not that men want it so. In fact, man's deepest yearning is for woman to step into the fullness of her feminine sexuality.

Skydancing is an essential expression of the wild woman in all of us. When our energy is freed up, it awakens in the yoni (vagina) and spirals up through the body, taking us into an ecstatic dance of letting-go. This teaching from woman to woman takes some doing in our current western mindset. Women have been brought up to believe that most or all of their sexual expression is wrong and must only be presented in an acceptable way according to the culture.

The purpose of this workshop is to guide women into the opening, release and receptivity that turns our sexuality into a force of awakening. Some themes that may be covered in this workshop (depending on the requirements of the group):

* Awakening sexual energy
* Opening to desire
* Directing sexual energy
* The essential qualities of the feminine
* Sexuality, belonging and relationships
* Virgin, whore, women’s union
* Listening to yoni
* Connecting heart and sex

The methods we use are breathwork, subtle movement, dancing, conversation and enactment.
As this energy is very alive in my body, I am able to transmit it to the women in the group. This transmission is one of the key methods that makes this workshop so powerful.

No nakedness is required and no direct sexual contact with others. It is entirely possible to wake up the beauty and power of your own sexuality through dropping into the bliss of your own experience - which is what we will be doing on this workshop.

Monday June 20th (Oakland) and Friday June 24th (Fairfax) / 7pm-10pm / $10 advance, $15 at door

About BlissDance
is the balance that happens
When we fully embrace
Both our shadow and our light
And come to rest
In love

Blissdance is an expression of Tantra, the art of integrating the sacred and sexual, and using this as a force for awakening. In a Blissdance session, you explore your inner and outer worlds through movement and stillness, music and silence. The dance is free and not stylized, though guided by me through the progression of a theme. I introduce the dance, show you how I interpret it, and then you find our own response.

Blissdance draws on the wisdom of Biodanza and various other dance,movement and meditation traditions.

One of the first principles of Tantra is presence – being present in the here and now, in your body, in your senses. Another is the connection between our passion, our sexuality and our hearts. Blissdance is a space where you can come rest into the simple beauty of moving in a body, with other bodies, in the dance of life.

As this happens, you get to experience and confront some of the patterns that keep us from being intimate with life:

Body armoring: We hold our bodies rigid in an attempt to protect ourselves from feeling too much - or feeling what we have been suppressing. Sometimes that is laughter or ecstasy, sometimes that is sadness. fear or anger. All these states are welcome in the dance.

Associations: Over a lifetime of suppessions, we have started to build up meaning through associations. When someone touches you, what does it mean to you? When you enjoy the touch, what fears come up? Do they relate to past experiences or future projections? In BlissDance, these subconscious processes will become conscious for you. In awareness lies the liberation.

One of the keys of BlissDance is that the dance moves you out of your habits and stuck ways. We act out some of the drama's of everyday life - like having a couple's fight - but do that in a conscious way, as a celebration of the body, and as an act of freedom. In doing that, something gives way, more space gets created, and we can celebrate our freedom more. Sometimes I use ancient shamanic techniques to help shake up the nervous system so that you can slip into this moment with no mind. Sometimes we dance wild and crazy with little structure and limitation, to let that energy be expressed and accessed in the body. Eventually, as Rumi says:

something opens up
I taste only sacredness

The moment softens. We get to feel everything intimately. We welcome what is, no longer resist, and in that we can meet the beloved, in the dance, in this moment. In the first place, that beloved is my very own being. Then I can meet him/her in the other, the group, my life, existence.

BlissDance is for those who are yearning for presence, freedom and truth. It is for the brave spiritual warriors who are not scared to dance their ridiculousness and to let their vulnerability be felt in the dance as well.

All it takes is a little willingness. The music, the facilitation and the group will carry you along into what you really want: A deep opening into this present precious moment.

BELOVED: a Tantric workshop on The Reality of Love and Relationship

Saturday June 25 10am-8pm
Open Secrets Bookstore San Rafael, Ca

Workshop objective

In our collective psyches the dream of finding the Soulmate moves strongly - that 'other' who will meet and fulfill me completely. And yes, there is a real soulmate for each one of us. But that person is inside. Inside ourselves we are both masculine and feminine. The lovers and loved ones that cross our paths are our mirrors for where we are in the inner relationship between male and female. They can also be a rich fulfillment - and embodiment - of our inner Soulmate.

The split between masculine and feminine in us is a primary polarity. A central aim of Tantra is the integration of this polarity. With that comes an experience of who you really are, in all your rich diversity. Paradoxically, as we embrace our inner Soulmate, a new fruitfulness becomes possible in our outer relationships.

Aims of meeting the Beloved within

It is possible to get intimately acquainted with your inner beloved. In this workshop we will do so through

Guided drum journey
Gestalt role-play
Breathwork and
BlissDance - awakening the senses within your own body

Tantric Orgasm: Building Sexual Energy

Sunday June 26th, 10am to 6pm Fairfax cost $95 to $125

Orgasm - that great moment when we all let go into infinite space and into the warmth of the open heart. Sadly, for most men on the face of the earth, orgasm is a very short-lived affair, and for many women, an elusive experience. This workshop is an opportunity to radically change your perception of what orgasm is, and to open to a whole new relationship to it.

Through discussion, breathwork and movement, I will introduce you to Tantric orgasm: a full-body awakening of orgasmic energy rippling up through your body that takes you way beyond your limited perception of self. This experience, which is also known as kundalini orgasm, is like riding the waves of pleasure, and it can continue for 8 hours - or 3 days.

The question is: How much bliss can you stand?

This workshop is an introduction to the sexual meditation of Tantra. Tantric practitioners are interested in building sexual energy and supporting the flow of this energy through the whole body as a force for awakening and pure, blissful presence. The workshop will give you a taste of some of the basic techniques and approaches we use. Some themes to be covered:

  • Genital sex versus spiritual sex
  • Sex up the chakras
  • Techniques for raising sexual energy
  • Clearing blocks in the flow of sexual energy

Totality Therapy Facilitator's Training

17 - 19 July, Oakland

$295 in advance // $349 after July 1

What is Totality Therapy?

Totality Therapy is a contemporary, streamlined interpretation of the ancient wisdom of Advait Tantra. Totality Therapy uses the method of total immersion in experience while evoking a strong witness. Through deeply experiencing primary polarities such as fear and desire, good and bad, masculine and feminine, you get to break through the polarized gridlocks of your existing ego structure. Totality Therapy are for people who are serious about waking up – this lifetime. This workshop is suitable for any seeker, but particularly also for practitioners who would like to be exposed to this method. For full details see

How does it work?

Totality Therapy works as follows:

· The aim is greater awareness and presence, even if the road seems to go into unhappiness, disintegration and apparent madness.

· No expression of the person’s being is excluded – mental, emotional, physical, sexual, subtle energetic and spiritual facets are met directly as they present themselves.

· The practitioner is involved with her whole being while maintaining a state of heightened awareness. Thus no boundaries are needed and the client is encouraged to embody his/her life with totality.

Workshop aim

The aim of this workshop is to give you an experiential introduction to the seven basic methods of Totality Therapy:

1. Lifting taboos and suppressions (facing fears)
2. Embracing fantasies and desires
3. Integrating polarities
4. Expanding heart capacity
5. Developing presence in the body
6. Male-female integration
7. Meditation in the moment

About Shakti Malan (Ph.D.)

shakti 1.jpg
Shakti is a dakini (teacher of the mystery traditions of Tantra) and member of the Advait Tantraschool ( She has a busy practice involving sessions, workshops, courses and retreats. Shakti is based in Cape Town and has been teaching internationally in the UK and the US. Her central approach is to enter the totality of experience as a gateway to awakening. Shakti believes that sexuality is the field which most powerfully directs us to this gateway. For more on her work, see and

Shakti is a woman who has always had a deep sense of calling, which first she explored in the development field working with township communities all across South Africa. Through this work she attained a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology, a discipline that teaches the practitioner to listen to the reality of groups and individuals from an insider perspective, through immersion in the texture of their lives.

Following from many years of devotion to meditation, tai chi, yoga and shamanic work, Shakti had a sudden and profound redirection of her energy into the field of Tantra. This started at the age of 33 with 18 months of death processing in the wilderness, and then a long period of intense work with the Advaita tradition of non-duality, as well as deep personal emotional processing.

Her style of teaching is influenced by Advaita teachings in general and specifically Advait Tantra, shamanism (most poignantly African shamanic traditions), systemic and processwork psychology, her intellectual training as a Social Anthropologist and also her work as a dance and movement teacher.
