Man and Woman Awake
Residential Tantra Intensive Retreat
15 - 17 June, Oxfordshire, England
Shakti Malan and Aaron Swanson

This Retreat
The meeting and merging of masculine and feminine is a primary objective of Tantric practice. In human evolution, the year 2012 signals the time when the inner marriage between masculine and feminine becomes more available to us - and the imperative is strong for us to use the opportunity. When masculine and feminine merge, we awake to the truth of who we really are - the Beloved as such. On the way there, it is important for Man to open to fully embodying the Masculine, and for Woman to embody the Feminine. Once this has happened, we can open to the other, and start dancing with the Soulmate Within.
The feminine, as represented in Tantra by Shakti, is not afraid of the dark underworld. She creates the world of illusions. She is comfortable exploring and integrating what is in the unconscious. She explores dark eros and finds the gifts in those corners of existence that have been shunned. She smells, drinks, feels, hears, tastes. She receives the mystery and opens to that which is beyond the known.
The masculine, as represented in Tantra by Shiva, holds one pointed focus and stillness. Shiva sits in deep meditation on Mount Khailash, and is undisturbed by the movement of the elements around him. His quality is presence, and when he acts, he does so with skillful means. His attitude to the feminine is total love and devotion. He is the arrow that enters where the feminine guides and takes the energy upward towards transcendent oneness with all that is.

On this retreat, we will explore the following themes:

Shakti Malan and Aaron Swanson
About Shakti Malan (Ph.D)
Shakti is a dakini or teacher of the mysteries of Tantra and member of the Advait Tantraschool (tantraschool.co.za). Shakti is based in Cape Town, South Africa but teaches and practices across the world. Her central approach is to enter the totality of experience as a gateway to awakening. Shakti believes that sexuality is the field which most powerfully directs us to this gateway. For more on her work, see www.shakti.co.za and www.totalitytherapy.com
Shakti's purpose as Tantric dakini is to facilitate your awakening to the essence of who you really are, while remaining fully functional in your body. Many traditions of enlightenment view the body as that which is to be transcended. Tantra sees the body as a vehicle for awakening. The process of dropping through veils of illusion can be very impactful on our nervous system, and every aspect of our physical and energetic bodies. Because Shakti values the body as the vehicle through which you can share your awakening with the world, she aims to ensure that your energetic and physical bodies are fully prepared for the process of waking up. This requires totality of the seeker - the willingness to have every aspect of your energetic and physical reality be purified by the power of truth. As this happens, conversely, the body becomes capable of sensing and experiencing on increasingly subtle and refined levels. Thus, the physical vessel of the body becomes a suitable instrument to transmit the essence of the awakened state.
Shakti has a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology, a discipline that teaches the practitioner to listen to the reality of groups and individuals from an insider perspective, through immersion in the texture of their lives. She spent many years translating the realities of vulnerable communities to decision makers in government, development organizations and corporates in the fields of poverty management, economic development and environmental management. Shakti’s training as dakini comes through the Advaita tradition and many years of immersion in meditation and conscious body practices.

About Aaron Swanson
From his early twenties, Aaron's life has been immersed in the study of Tantra and meditation. He has worked with the Tantric teachings of Bernie Prior, Barry Long, Saniel Bonder and David Deida, as well as Ipsalu Tantra, the intimacy practices of the Realization Process created by Judith Blackstone and the Womb Wisdom work of Padma Aon, exploring specifically these aspects of Tantric practice: Resting in Non Dual stillness, being present as Awareness fully in the body, conducting energy or Shakti throughout the body, and opening the heart and body fully to the mystery of Woman.
Aaron's exploration of consciousness and meditation practices has been through the work of masters such as Anadi, Adyashanti, John DeRuiter and Leslie Temple Thurston, through whose work he has discovered the ever deepening awakening of Pure Awareness beyond Form and its continuing clarification and evolution in the marriage of Spirit and Form within the Non Dual Ground of Being.
Aaron believes that Tantra is a path to embodied wholeness where we have the opportunity to bring the light of Pure Awareness and Divine Love deep into the body where all shadows and incongruencies in ones being must be faced with both the impeccable dedication of Spiritual Warriorship and the Heart of a sensitive Lover. Through the meeting of the Masculine and Feminine we have the opportunity to realize God in the Forms of the World, and support the evolution of our precious World into higher forms of development. It is a path of utter care and devotion that lovingly requires everything.

Intimate Presence talk London

Intimate Presence:

A Talk on Deep Meeting in Love and Sex

Time: June 13th 2012, 7pm - 9pm
Venue: Moving Arts Base, 134 Liverpool Road, Islington, London, N1 1LA
On intimate presence

We live in a society where true intimacy is a rarity, and is feared rather than cultivated. The more we look outside for objects, persons or activities to fulfill us, the more we become estranged from ourselves. Our relationships become superficial. Through developing presence with ourselves, we can become intimate with others and with all of life.
Before developing presence, our attention tends to be diluted through projected needs and fears that leave us always unsatisfied and craving for more, or unconsciously avoiding the intimacy that is right here. On this workshop, we will introduce you to simple ways of building your capacity for presence with yourself, with a partner and with all of life.
When we bring conscious presence to the heart, it enables the heart to truly love. Without such presence, the energy of the heart gets dissipated by emotional undercurrents generated by the subconscious mind.

 Sexual Awakening for Women
Talk and book presentation
Oakland, California 15 May 7 - 9pm

In this talk, Shakti will be introducing the work contained in her book Sexual Awakening for Women: A Tantric Workbook.
Female sexual energy has a unique quality that is little understood in our world today. Though this book, and the transmission that Shakti sends in the reading of it, women can begin to taste again, and deeply enjoy, the bliss of female sexual energy. This is a journey within, an opening to embodied bliss from the inside out. That opening ripples through the body as a deep relaxation and an ecstatic aliveness. Shakti believes that female sexual energy is a gateway to spiritual awakening. It is the feminine, though her receptivity, that can lead the masculine into the unknown, the mystery, that which is beyond the ego-mind.

Sexual Awakening for Women
Two one day workshops

17 and 19 May 2012
Oakland, California

Female sexual energy has a unique quality that is little understood in our world today. Though the practices you will work through in these two day workshops, and the transmission that Shakti provides, women can begin to taste again, and deeply enjoy, the bliss of female sexual energy.
17 May 2012: Releasing the old
In opening fully to the flow of our sexual energy, we need to let go of old patterns that no longer serve us. Examples are
  • sexual beliefs and attitudes held in our ancestral lineages
  • attitudes we carry towards our body and sexuality
  • the virgin/whore split in women's psyches and
  • patterns that cause us to suppress the power of our womanness.
Through creative practices, movement and breath work, Shakti will guide the women through the release of what no longer serves us, and an opening to the true power of female sexuality.
19 May: Skydancing Woman
This day is a pure celebration of female sexuality. Through breath work, movement, dance and embodied meditation, we will connect deeply to our female sexual essence and allow that to move through our bodies. Skydancer is the literal translation for dakini, the Tibetan Tantric terms for the feminine principle. When woman's sexual energy wakes up, it dances through our bodies and into the infinite, ecstatic sky.
Cost: $180 for one day, $300 for both days

Conscious BDSM: Sharpening the Blade

20 May 2012 2 - 5pm

The Looking Glass

Oakland, California

Our erotic response is directly connected to the darkly delicious fertile soil of our unconscious. In my work with erotic genres such as BDSM, my aim is to uncover, welcome and integrate as much of the forgotten self into your conscious energetic being as possible. Every time this happens, something in our existing ego structures shatter - and we wake up more to the truth of who we really are, as embodied souls.BDSM as a field of erotic exploration lends itself to profound transformation - if it is approached consciously, and with totality. Totality in this context means not holding back at all in exploring the depth of feelings that is held in the erotic. Such feelings are most often mixed, particularly when there is a desire for domination or submission: the erotic response increases significantly with the presence of seemingly opposite states of feeling present, such as shame, guilt, repulsion and pain. I will explore in this workshop the workings of these parallel, paradoxical states, and why it is important to feel it all.
Totality with BDSM requires a fine scalpel - keen perception from both the sub and the dom in identifying exactly what the desire-fear complex is, and how it is linked to the unconscious. This is not a theoretical exercise. It is felt in the body. So for instance, it is essential to be able to distinguish between eroticism to physical pain, power, mind-emotional complexes (such as guilt or disgust combined with arousal) or surrender. Without identifying the exact focus of the erotic charge, the work simply cannot be total, and cannot go all the way through. And identification means going all the way through - into the depths of the experience.
Finally, this talk will address ways of working with the nervous system responses that occur in the presence of intense sensation. I will address ways of using forms of domination to touch and unwind deep contractions in the nervous system. By creating space for the full experience of the nervous system to be there, we free up the capacity to feel more, and start to experience life with exquisitely fine presence, awe and love.

Totality Therapy
Sexual Somatic Presencing

Introductory talk: 18 May 7 - 10pm

Workshop: 26 & 27 May 2012
Shakti Mari Malan assisted by Aaron Swanson
Oakland, California
What is Totality Therapy?
Please read the full description of this method on the website: www.totalitytherapy.com
Totality Therapy is a contemporary, streamlined interpretation of the ancient wisdom of Tantra. It was developed and is taught by Dr Shakti Mari Malan. Totality Therapy uses the method of total immersion in experience while evoking a strong witness presence within. Through experiencing primary polarities such as fear and desire, good and bad, masculine and feminine with intentional depth and thoroughness, we get to break through the polarized gridlocks of our existing ego structure.
Sexual Somatics Presencing
Sexual somatic presencing is the process of becoming deeply present in our bodies through the release and opening of what is held in our sexual energy. Our sexual energy is directly connected to our unconscious - to experiences in our collective or individual histories that are unresolved or suppressed. Sexual Somatics Presencing Training catalyses awareness of what is held in the sexual unconscious, and also provides skills and opportunities for the integration of unconscious materials. This work has a strong focus on nervous system repatterning. The weekend also provides training in developing deep presence in our embodied sexuality, at all times.

This weekend is an introduction to Sexual Somatic work, and will be followed by a Sexual Somatics Facilitators Training in California in May/June 2013.
Who is the course for?
Totality Therapy is for people who are serious about waking up - this lifetime. Awakening happens when we live in the full, embodied realization that there is no separate self and that we are essentially one with all of existence. Some traditions would call this the realization of our essential divinity. In Advaita, the awakened state is seen as that which exists beyond perceptions of duality. This course is suitable for any seeker/student, but is especially designed for practitioners/healers who would like to incorporate this method into their professional practice.

Intimate Breath Paris June 24

Intimate Breath
a Tantric breath workshop for men and women
24 June 2012

with Shakti Mari Malan (Ph.D)

The breath is the most intimate touch of existence. This first beloved caresses us from the inside, all the time, and yet we hardly notice its presence. Most of us have hardly begun to explore the power of the breath as a tool to deepen our intimacy with ourselves, with another and with existence as such. There is so much more capacity for aliveness in us, right here in our bodies - if we open up more deeply to the breath.

Both Breathwork and Tantra poses this question: How much bliss can you stand? And as we explore this question experientially, we discover something fascinating: Our capacity to feel is our capacity to feel. The more we open to whatever feelings and sensations present themselves in this moment - the more we become willing to dive deep into what is here right now - the higher we can fly into the bliss of undivided presence.

On this workshop, you will discover how to:

breathe more deeply into the different dimensions of your body
open to the sensual, rhythmic flow of the breath
drop beyond the mind, into the mind blowing transformational power of the breath
share breathwork with a partner through tantric meditations
bring the power of the breath more strongly into your moving, dancing active life
follow the thread of the breath to its source
